Magnolia 'Hot Lips'
This plant was bought at the Esveld nursery in The Netherlands, under the name Magnolia campbellii subsp. mollicomata. It is most likely a hybrid of this tree with another cultivar (perhaps M. sprengeri 'Diva'). The flowers are pink on the outside and turn darker on the flower base. The name 'Hot Lips' comes from this deep red voluptuous flower base. The inside of the tepals is pale pink to white. Magnolia 'Hot Lips' is floriferous, but blooms quite early in the season. It is easy to propagate from cuttings.
