Magnolia 'Wim Rutten'

This Magnolia, obtained from seed of the cross between Magnolia 'Forrest's Pink' and Magnolia 'Marilyn', was named after Wim Rutten (1940-2006), a Dutch Magnolia enthusiast and excellent propagator. Apart from his industrial nursery, Wim Rutten established a small company for specialised amateurs, Magnoliastore.com, where enthusiasts from the whole world were able to find the latest selections. Magnolia 'Wim Rutten' is a fastigiate tree which could be interesting as a street tree. The beautiful flowers are purple on the outside and white to whitish pink on the inside, and have a sweet scent, similar to the scent of papaya.
